Irish airline Ryanair decided to move its Warsaw hub for domestic flights back to Chopin airport from Modlin. It has also announced it will invest USD 300 mln in Poland.
The low-cost carrier said that as of 30 October, domestic flights to Gdańsk and Wrocław will be flying from Warsaw Chopin airport, which is significantly closer to the city centre than Modlin – some 40 km away.
Ryanair has been struggling to retain clients in the wake of more destinations being offered by a high-speed rail service from national operator PKP, which now runs between most major cities in Poland.
However, Ryanair will not be leaving Modlin. It has announced new destinations from the airport.
The new connections to Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Porto, Toulouse and Valencia will bring the total destinations offered from the airport to 35.
Ryanair has also announced that it will invest an additional USD 300 million in Poland, as well as creating 2,600 jobs at the two airports in Warsaw.
