The number of Polish immigrants continuously increasing in 2014

The figure of 2, 320 000 Poles are technically living abroad ‘temporarily’. According to GUS data, about 124,000 more Poles were in such situation at the end of 2014 than a year before. The largest particular rise was in Germany, where the number of Poles increased by almost 10 percent, up to 54,000 at the end of 2013. The United Kingdom also witnessed an upward trend in terms of Polish immigration, with a rise of 6.7 percent, up to about 43,000.

Another rise was to be found in the Netherlands, while the least popular destinations were Cyprus and Portugal. Poles have also tended to choose Sweden more often than in previous years. The number of Polish immigrants has increased almost four times since 2004 with 11,000 to 43,000 in 2014.

The vast majority of Polish emigrants stay abroad because of work. However, with the time passing the percentage of people- family members of Polish immigrants increases.
