Polish economy accelerated to 3.9% year on year in the fourth quarter 2015, showing the highest rate of GDP growth since 2011, according to a flash estimate by Central Statistics Office (GUS). The third quarter 2015 GDP growth was confirmed at 3.5% y/y.
Poland is likely to enjoy continuation of positive tendencies visible in Q4’15 GDP growth of 3.9% also in 2016, GUS head Janusz Witkowski told reporters.
“We are entering 2016 with some growth tendency, there is a chance that these positive tendencies could positively translate into the result in 2016,” Witkowski said.
“This result shows that the economy is developing in a balanced way, close to its potential,” Witkowski added.
Head of accounts department at GUS Maria Jeznach called the Q4 growth “strong” and unlikely to be revised downwards.
The Polish economic acceleration to 3.9% y/y in the final quarter of 2015 was mostly fueled by higher spending in the public sector and by households, which more than offset a slowdown in investment outlays, the daily Parkiet writes citing economists.
