Polish power consumption stable y/y in October
Polish electricity consumption in October increased by a marginal 0.01% year on year to 14,158 GWh, while electricity generation rose by 0.95% to 14,300 GWh, data from the grid operator PSE showed. In the year to date, consumption increased by 1.49% y/y to 135,336 GWh. YTD production declined by 0.46% to 132,621 GWh.

Poland seeks expansion of BPO market

 The Polish government wants to attract more firms to open business services centers in Poland. The list of firms interested includes US’ BofA/ML, BlackRock, Fidelity Investment, Wells Fargo, Moody’s Money Europe, , US Bank and Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Germany’s Commerzbank, South Africa’s ICBC Standard Bank and UK’s Barclays and Standard Chartered.

Brexit will likely bring a number of outsourcing deals to Poland, deputy PM and Development and Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said in an interview for Parkiet daily. Morawiecki’s recent visit to London leads him to believe that dozens of firms will bring their HR, IT, accounting or other back-office operations to Poland. Headquarters are not likely to be moved to Poland as Poland is not in the euro zone, he says.

Poland’s business services sector expected to expand

Some 300,000 persons may be working in Poland’s business services sector in 2020, up from 212,000 at present, ABSL business lobby estimated in a report presented during a London industry event.

Some of the increase might come from firms shifting their services centers from London in the aftermath of Brexit.
