Professor Krzysztof Skóra has passed away

He was an eminent biologist, specialist in the field of ichthyology, inventor, founder and manager of Marine Station of the Institute of Oceanography at the University of Gdańsk placed on Hel. Prof. Skóra died on Saturday, 13.02.2016, at the age of 65. He was known for his contribution for Polish – Swedish cooperation.

Prof. Skóra carried out studies on the influence of fauna species, newly appearing in the Baltic Sea so-called invasive species, on the state of the ecosystem of coastal waters.

For these studies prof. Skóra received in 2008 Swedish Baltic Sea award established by the Swedish government in 1999 given to individuals, organizations, cities or institutions that have outstanding contributions to the protection and improvement of the waters of the Baltic Sea and its biological life.

It was written then in the support of polish laureate selection, that studies conducted by him “are of the highest quality”, and excellent educational programs prepared in the Station “arouse interest in the protection of the Baltic Sea among the public, especially young people.”

Prof. Krzysztof Skóra was a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and also belonged to the Sea Research Committee and the State Council for the Protection of Nature.
