Poland advances in WEF’s global competitiveness report

Poland advanced in the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report by two places to 41st on a fractional 0.1 point gain in its overall score, a presentation of the study’s results from the central bank NBP showed.

“After a few years of slight decreases, Poland has started climbing upwards on the competitiveness ranking list of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and has come 41st among 140 countries”, Piotr Boguszewski of the NBP (National Bank of Poland) wrote in a comment to the report.

Business leaders have given higher ratings to Polish infrastructure and to Polish innovation, although the latter leaves much to be desired, NBP said. Entrepreneurs who participated in the survey, like in previous years as the biggest problem for the competitiveness of the Polish economy pointed the tax law, labor law barriers and inefficient public administration. However, the Polish strengths are a low crime rate, price stability, stable systemic situation and appropriate Foreign Exchange regulations.

Global Competitiveness Report presents the results of tests carried out annually by the World Economic Forum. This year in the competition are involved about 14 000 companies from 140 countries of the world. Since 2009 NBP  has actively participated in research and is a Polish partner of the WEF. The study involved 214 Polish companies.
