New President of the Republic of Poland

At 10 a.m. today Andrzej Duda took the oath of office and formally became the President of the Republic of Poland. He was sworn in at the National Assembly meeting in the building of Parliament.

The new President appeared in the company of his wife and took the oath in her presence. Later he addressed the speech to the nation.

Andrzej Duda won the May 24´ ellection with 51.5% of votes when other 48.5% of electors voted for Bronisław Komorowski.

Aged 43, Andrzej Duda comes from Krakow, where he graduated in law from the Jagiellonian University, majoring in administrative law. He holds a PhD in legal sciences. Deputy justice minister in 2006-7, he was responsible for legislation, IT solutions at courts and prosecutors’ offices, and international cooperation. In 2008, he was named undersecretary of state at the chancellery of President Lech Kaczynski. A Sejm deputy from 2011, he won a seat at the European Parliament three years later.
