70 years has passed since Sweden began an action bringing aid to Poland and Europe destroyed during the Second World War. In regard to this important anniversary, Bowke Foundation has initiated and prepared this project, referring to a piece of history still not widely known but meaningful for the people living in Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia, Malbork and the whole Pomerania region facing hard post-war reality.
Swedish charity organizations played a significant role during those hard days in the region. Swedish hospitals, nursing homes and aid-buses became a part of cities and towns of Pomerania for a long time. The charity of Swedes carries a universal message about unselfish help, solidarity and aid for the weakest.
These little-known facts about post war history became a contribution to create this project for next four years which will include conferences, exhibitions, educational packages and publications. Spreading so far unknown information concerning the Swedish humanitarian aid will contribute to development of current socio- political- economic Polish and Swedish relations.
About Swedish tastes of the treat during the conference will take care IKEA.
