Ikea considering divesting in Poland?

The Swedish furniture retailer is considering selling much of its real estate in Europe, including parks in Poland, Bloomberg has reported.

In 2015, Ikea, which specialises in flat-packed furniture, reported revenues of EUR 32.7 billion.

Bloomberg reported that the company plans to offload retail parks in Europe worth some EUR 900 million.

Ikea has contracted advisor Cushman & Wakefield to help with the sale, unnamed sources told Bloomberg, however, Ikeas spokeswoman Josefin Thorell, confirmed that the company plans to sell 27 European retail parks.

Bloomberg said that a total of 12 retail parks are in Germany, with the rest in Poland, Sweden, France, Finland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Following the transactions, Ikea will remain with 25 parks in all of Europe.

In Poland alone, the company operates seven locations. The first, in Poznań, was opened in 1991.
