NATO country leaders meeting in Warsaw for a 8-9 July summit of the alliance decided to deploy four multinational, rotating battalions to Poland and three Baltic countries, which all fear potential Russian aggression after Moscow’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.
General Ben Hodges, the head of the US Army in Europe, said in mid-August that an American battalion would arrive in Poland in April.
In addition, an armoured brigade would likely appear in Poland on a rotating basis in February, Hodges added.
“Our allies have decided to send the first military units as early as January,” Macierewicz told members of the parliamentary defence committee on Wednesday.
