Four state-controlled companies to jointly buy EDF’s Polish assets

Poland’s power groups PGE, Enea, Energa and heat & power PGNiG Termika filed a joint preliminary non-binding offer for purchasing assets of French power group EDF in Poland, all companies said in respective market filings on Friday.

EDF assets include the Rybnik power plant, which provides 7% of the country’s power supply, heat & power plants in Cracow, Gdansk and Gdynia power plants and heat distribution networks in Torun, the Wroclaw agglomeration and Zielona Gora as well as a gas-fueled block project in Torun.

The companies will proceed to due diligence provided they are admitted to the next stage of the transaction, the filings read.
In August, the Polish government added EDF Polska to the list of firms that cannot be sold without government’s consent – the government wields a veto right for such transactions.
