The Polish government plans implementing a 0.7% tax on retail trade of up to PLN 300 million a month, a 1.3% on the surplus above that sum and a 1.9% on revenues generated during weekends and holidays. The monthly tax-free amount will be PLN 1.5 million, as said the Finance Ministry of the planned tax.
Exemption from the tax will include pharmaceuticals and reimbursed drugs, meals prepared by the seller, natural gas, water, heat and electricity.
The state budget should collect PLN 2 billion from the new levy in 2016, the ministry said. Additionally, the new levy should result in stronger competition on the retail market and as the ministry assured, the cost of the tax should not be transferred to the client.
