Polish company collecting data from satellites

Polish company Creotech Instruments will collect data from the European Space Agency’s satellites. A Polish consortium has won a tender to store and process data collected by satellites operated by ESA.

According to Grzegorz Brona, the chairman of the consortium, the deal has already attracted the interest of potential customers. Brona said that the service could be compared to Google Earth – the popular service run by search engine giant Google – but the ESA data will be more accurate, and made available to clients on a commercial basis.

The project is part of the largest ever commissioned by the European Space Agency for the construction of infrastructure which provides data, as well as the computing power required for its processing.

Creotech Instruments is a member of Polish Space Agency (POLSA) which was established in Poland in July 2014. As the headquarters of POLSA was picked the Gdansk Science and Technology Park. The official website of Polish Space Agency is used as a platform for all of Polish space companies to exchange opinions on the policies related to space industry.

Jadwiga Emilewicz from the Polish Development Ministry said that it was the first ESA tender won by a Polish company in competition with other European consortia.
