As predicted, the exit poll signaling victory of Law and Justice grouping in parliamentary elections was right. Conservative opposition has won Poland’s general election with 37.58 percent of votes and secured majority of 236 seats in the 460-seat lower house of parliament (Sejm) to govern alone.
The exit poll by Ipsos regarding the election to Poland’s lower house of parliament was released shortly after 9:00 pm, when voting finished. Turnout was given as 51.6 percent.
Results of other parties in accordance PKW (National Electoral Commission):
– Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz’s centrist Civic Platform party was given 24.9 percent (139 MPs)
– Kukiz ’15, the recent formation of rock star turned politician Paweł Kukiz came third, with 8,81 percent (39 MPs)
– Nowoczesna, another newcomer, the centrist Modern party of economist Ryszard Petru was placed fourth with 7.6 percent (31 MPs)
– Polish People Party (PSL), Civic Platform’s junior coalition partner managed 5.2 percent,
– The United Left coalition was fifth with 7.5 percent, and failed to enter parliament. Coalitions need to garner 8 percent of the vote to take seats in parliament, while single parties need 5.13 percent.
– KORWiN, the party of self-styled libertarian Janusz Korwin-Mikke, was below the 5 percent threshold, with 4.76 percent, as was new left-wing faction the Together Party, with 3.62 percent.
