Budget airlines expand on Polish market

Two budget airlines operating in Poland – Hungarian Wizz Air and Irish Ryanair have announced they intend to expand their presence in Poland by offering new destinations and increasing the number of flights on existing routes.

Ryanair plans to offer three new directions in summer 2016, which will increase the number of its destinations to 34. Among the others it plans offering flights to Sweden – Gothenburg. The two other places are Malaga and Cologne. The airline believes it can increase its passenger count in Poland to 8.3 million in 2016 and hit 13 million within five years. Ryanair has made the Modlin airport Europe’s fastest growing.

WizzAir intends to increase its summer offer by 13% by offering four new connections and expanding the number of flights on existing routes. The new connections will be with Aberdeen, Bari, Bristol and Reykjavik. Wizz Air is up by 30% to 4 million passengers to date in 2015 on its way to 6.2 million this year and 7 million in 2016, an official said. Wizz Air could pass Poland’s flagship airline LOT to become the nation’s number two already this year, he said.
