Baltic Amber

A gem cherished and longed for since the days of the ancient Greco-Roman world, amber is now becoming increasingly popular with customers across the globe, in particular in the US, Asia and Gulf States with the most valued amber in the Jewellery being the Baltic one.

World’s biggest amber fair

The amber capital of the world wouldn’t enjoy its status if it were not for Amberif, the world’s biggest amber fair. Held since 1994 by Gdańsk International Fair, (Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie) every March it attracts over 6000 amber merchants from 40+ countries.

To make it all the more exciting the fair is accompanied by the Amberif Design Award competition. This forms part of a broader strategy to promote amber craftsmen talent that includes the opportunity to take part in the annual Amber & Fashion Gala. The fair is held in the state of the art Amber Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre. The truly impressive range of tourism highlights of Gdańsk would not be complete without the Amber Museum.

Promoting knowledge of amber

It has long been customary to shower official guests to Gdańsk with amber-themed diplomatic gifts. City and regional authorities take every effort to promote knowledge of amber by educating younger generations and assisting the publishing of works on the ‘gold of the north’.

Inspiring promising young designers and seasoned masters alike

It’s not only that Gdańsk captivates with its amber heritage and flair. This amber-influenced identity provides inspiration for designers and artists. The goal of these meetings is to encourage and inspire internationally prominent jewelers who have so far had little or no experience of working with amber to utilise this sublime gemstone in their work.

Those visiting Pomorskie in August are given the additional opportunity to learn more about traditional craftsmanship and artisanship of Gdańsk at the International Amber Fair
AMBERMART (26-28 August, at the AmberExpo Exhibition and Convention Centre).
