The Polish government could lower the VAT rate to 22 percent from 23 percent in 2016, that is a year sooner than planned, Finance Minister Mateusz Szczurek said during a debate hosted by PAP.
Szczurek however, said such a decision would depend on the effectiveness of VAT collection in the face of the accelerating economy. The economic cycle in Poland “exceptionally” strongly affects VAT revenues,? said Szczurek. So if revenues from the tax rise along with economic growth and efforts at limiting the shadow economy succeed, resulting in better VAT collection, “there will be no reason to limit VAT in 2016,” he added.
