25.10.2015 parliamentary elections in Poland

Poles will go to the polls on Sunday October 25 to vote in the general election. Opinion polls suggest that after eight years of the rule by the governing Civic Platform (PO), the Law and Justice (PiS) party will take over the main place in Poland’s politics.

In the meantime at least three of nine groupings running in the autumn parliamentary elections lure voters with lower retirement age. The parties that promise cutting retirement age are Law and Justice, United Left (ZL) and Polish People Party (PSL). Higher retirement age was implemented in 2012 being received with general discontent but on the other hand lowering retirement age would result in lowering pensions, as the economists say.

The pro- and anti-refugee policies are also taken up in the election campaign.

The Kukiz15 group, a new grouping which is also running in the elections looks like going to pass 5 percent threshold to enter parliament and the Korwin party seems to fade out of sight.
