Last Friday hit a new cargo handling record with historical for Polish maritime economy 32.3 million tons in previous year. Now it is 32,5 million tons and it is not even the end of a year.
In the first half of this year, the Port of Gdańsk handled 17.2 million tons of cargo. That’s 11.8 percent more than in the same period last year.
This year, despite the difficult situation on the shipping market, turned out to be extremely successful for the Port of Gdańsk. Therefore, one can expect closing the year 2015 with more than 35 million tones- the result failed to achieve by any Polish port.
After a full summary of past 10 months, the amount of cargo handled in the Port of Gdańsk exceeded the plan for this period by 11% and was higher from 2014 by more than 13%. Such a good result may be the effect of extremely expansive activity of terminals located in the Port of Gdańsk and investments made in the port facilities’ area.
Excellent results at the port can also be attributed to high turnover of liquid fuels, up by 30 % in 1H 2015.
Taking into consideration ongoing investments in this port, including a development of the DCT container terminal, new OT Logistics’ bulk terminal, finishing construction of the oil terminal of the PERN company, or the continuing modernization of the 226 railway line with the construction of new railway bridge to the Port of Gdańsk, one should hope that 2015 will not remain the last record year.
