17th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition

First stage auditions of the 17th International Frederic Chopin Piano Competition, one of the most challenging piano competitions in the world, began on Saturday 3.10.2015 at the Warsaw Philharmonic.

Young pianists from around the world will compete for the title of the world’s best performer of Chopin’s music until October 21. A total of 78 pianists have qualified for this year’s edition, most of them are from Poland (15) and China (14). The competition, held every five years, is one of the oldest and most prestigious music competitions in the world and one of few competitions entirely focusing on the music by just one composer.

The Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra invites everyone to attend recitals by participants. The concerts will take place daily at 7:00 p.m. from Monday, 5 October to Thursday, 15 October in the auditorium at 272 Grochowska Street. Admission to all concerts is free.

The first Chopin competition took place in 1927 at the Warsaw Philharmonic. Since 1957, the Chopin competition has been a member of the World Federation of World Music Competitions based in Geneva.
