Polish PM Morawiecki supports the idea of “one speed” Europe during V4 meeting

“Differentiation of Europe will weaken the power of European Single Market and the whole EU. We want one speed Europe which works in the best interests of all citizens, which we declared in the Belvedere Declaration” – said PM Morawiecki on Wednesday.

Morawiecki, took part in the meeting of the Visegrad Group economy and cohesion policy ministers along with Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania and Slovenia (V4+4). EU budget commissioner Guenther Oettinger also took part in the event. The participants accepted the so called “Belvedere Declaration”.

“The ministers talked about the problems with the European Single Market in the context of Brexit and the debate regarding the future of European Union. The subjects discussed included the cohesion policy and its future after 2020” – it was stated.

“The single market is the biggest catalyst of members’ economies growth. It allows the companies to work on a bigger scale, become more efficient while increasing their capability to innovate and invest. We see however many barriers regarding the base freedoms of single market which are created by the members themselves. The complexity of existing laws and lack of harmonization scare off business entities. The next challenge to the stability and integrity of the single market is Brexit” – said Morawiecki during the conference.

“We should use the synergy between the various EU policies which strengthen the economic growth and competitiveness of EU on the global scale.” – he added.

Poland for the fifth time chairs over the Visegrad Group which is “the most important forum of regional cooperation in the Central-Eastern Europe”. Hungary will be taking the mantle from July 1st. The meeting was also an occasion to finish the Polish presidency in the areas of economy and cohesion policy.
