The Baltic Sea Culture Centre invites you to the 33rd Festival “Sounds of the North”, held at the St. John’s Centre in Gdansk within 13 – 17 July 2016.
The indisputable star of the event is Kimmo Pohjonen – Finnish accordionist and experimentalist. He will perform in Gdansk the music from his latest album ‘Sensitive skin’, accompanied with his daughters – Inka and Saana.
This year’s concert programme includes exceptional artists from abroad; some of them will appear in Gdansk (and in Poland) for the first time – i.e. Aallotar, Valkyrien Allstars and Helene Blum & Harald Haugaard Band. Others are “old friends” that we can remember from previous editions of the Festival:Torgeir Vassvik will present an innovative combination of joik and contemporary music, Hal Parfitt-Murray returns with his new project – the Danish-Swedish team Basco.
We are proud and happy to present a very strong Polish representation – Kapela Maliszów, Dagadanaand Vołosi. Those groups had series of successful concerts in Poland and throughout Europe while their albums were superbly greeted both by audience and critics.
The reach program of the festival, besides concerts, traditionally will contain additional events – dance, sing and handcraft workshops; dancing with live music; film screenings and many other attractions.
We encourage you to follow the festival’s official Facebook profile.
